DRIVING THE DART

The atlatl is an ancient weapon. Basically it is an extension of one's arm that enhances ones ability to throw a spear, in this case called a dart.

ISABELLA THROWS HER DART

In prehistoric times atlatl's were used to kill
wooly mammoths. Today it is a sport practiced by many different people who throw at targets.

BEARDED THROWER

This couple have their own atlatls but they share darts with distinctive red feathers.

GIRL THROWING DART # 1

This young girl was intently working on her form at the end of the row near the ice cream truck.

Subsequent shots show her velocity and accuracy.

READY to THROW

The woman with the white feathered dart was especially enthusiastic. She was having a great time with her atlatl.
WOMEN THROWING DARTS

When the signal is given that the range is clear everyone throws towards the targets.

CURVED DART # 1

Many darts are very light. This one is so flexible that it bends as it is thrown. During its flight to the target it gyrates back and forth, but still hits with accuracy.
ON TARGET

As the thrower follows through, the dart flies towards the target.
